After the game against Leeds United, it was clear that Chelsea needed a striker – a top one for that matter.
Kai Havertz has failed to live up to expectations in the false nine role, and none of Chelsea’s forward players have found the net this season.
Chelsea have since made signing Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang a priority, and reports now claim that the transfer could be sealed this week.
According to Sky Germany, a deal between Chelsea and Barcelona is now close as Aubameyang has made up his mind and is willing to move to Stamford Bridge.
The report claims that ‘all parties are optimistic’ of the move being completed soon.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has reportedly been the driving force behind Chelsea’s push to sign Aubameyang – with the Gabon international being one of his best players at Dortmund.
Barcelona are keen on seeing this deal happen, as they are desperate to trim their wage bill in order to register summer signing Jules Kounde due to their current financial difficulties.
“If there is an offer for any of them, we’ll see how the squad turns out to be. Now the priority is to register Kounde,” Xavi recently said of former Chelsea target Jules Kounde.
“Kounde is training really well. He’s great with the ball. I think we signed a very good player. Now we need to sell some players to register him.”
Chelsea played very well, but we simply need an absolute striker in the form of Abmayang and the team will perform better.
