Thomas Tuchel has made it mandatory for Chelsea to sign one more centre-back before the close of the transfer window.

Chelsea have had two bids rejected for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, and it’s yet to be seen if Chelsea would submit a record bid for the 21-year-old.

Meanwhile, reports claim Chelsea have identified Brighton & Hove Albion centre-back Adam Webster as an alternative to Wesley Fofana.

While Fofana is the primary target, Chelsea won’t want to put all eggs in a basket.

Chelsea are understood to have drawn up a list of alternatives should they fail in their pursuit of Fofana, with the Daily Mail claiming that Manchester United skipper Harry Magurie is on the list.

According to the Daily Mail, Brighton centre-back Webster is a player Chelsea are closely monitoring and the Blues will consider making an enquiry for the defender in the final 10 days of the window.

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers admitted over the weekend that Fofana may be disappointed if he doesn’t leave this summer.

Asked if Fofana would be disappointed if he stays back at the King Power, Rodgers said: “I’m not sure. It all depends on the player. You can’t always say for definite how it’s going to be.

“For some players when the window shuts it’s a good moment because they can totally focus on playing again and getting on with their careers.

“Some players may feel they have lost the opportunity of a dream. They may just never be the same so that’s always the danger.”
