For some time now, Chelsea have struggled with strikers succeeding at the club.
Club record signing Romelu Lukaku is the latest striking casualty to struggle at Chelsea, and lasted just one season at Chelsea before returning to Inter Milan.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted he’s willing to make things work for the next striker at Chelsea, and wanted to give Lukaku that chance. But Lukaku was bent on leaving Chelsea.
Tuchel said: “We need to make sure that this is not a self-fulfilling prophecy that we create for ourselves.
“I was ready to improve the situation with Romelu. I was ready to give it new thoughts and new energy but it’s not possible so we had a difficult and disappointing year in this relationship.
“He expected more, we expected more and I expected more of myself, but still we should not create our own self-fulfilling prophecy that the next striker will also not succeed.
“It’s of course on me to create an environment and a team that creates enough chances that a striker can finally have the last touch in our game and score.”
