Edouard Mendy made a massive error which cost the team in the first half against Leeds United, which led to Leeds opening goal at the Elland Road.
Leeds defeated Chelsea 3-0, and it was a shocking performance from Thomas Tuchel’s men.
Shortly after the half-hour mark, Mendy was presented with a back pass. The Senegalese had all the time in the world to make a decision, but ended up dabbling with the ball until American striker Aaronson took it off him to tap into an empty net.
Speaking after the game, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel failed to dwell much on the goalkeeper’s error, as he insisted that Mendy ‘knows himself’.
Tuchel said: “He knows himself. With these kind of mistakes, I don’t know if it is necessary to speak about it.
“He knows himself and it has nothing to do with protecting him, everybody in the world sees that mistake.
“It’s a huge mistake in a crucial time in the match. He’s the one who’s the most disappointed, this cost us a lot today.”
