Tuchel speaks on Chilwell–Cucurella rivalry

Chelsea paid a massive fee to sign up Marc Cucurella from Brighton. The Blues paid a whopping £63m for the Spaniard.

The Spaniard has impressed in his two games for Chelsea so far.

Cucurella would rival Ben Chilwell for the left wing-back position at Chelsea.

The summer signing can play as a wing-back and as a left centre-back.

Explaining the competition ahead between Chilwell and Cucurella, Thomas Tuchel said: “I would say if we play a back four then they are competing for the same place.

“If we play a back five, it’s not 100 per cent because Ben is a clear wing-back and Marc is both – he can play in the back three and as a wing-back.”

Cucurella has warned that he’ll fight with Chilwell for a place in the team.

The Spaniard said: “He helped me a lot in these first days. He’s a very good person. It’s good competition because we need to work hard to play.

“We have two players for one position and if one player is better, the gaffer will put him in the line-up. I think this is good for the team.”
