Chelsea have seen a first bid of £60m rejected for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.

The Blues are keen on Fofana and had seen a second bid believed to be over £65m rejected by the Foxes for the 21-year-old.

Chelsea are believed to be preparing a third bid, and reports have it that this would be well over £70m.

Some reports claim Chelsea are willing to match or break the world record fee for a defender – which Leicester City received (£80m) for Harry Maguire.

For Brendan Rodgers, Leicester City aren’t ready to sell Fofana, but he accepted that the club would only sell if they receive a mouthwatering bid.

Asked whether there had been a third bid for Fofana, Rodgers said: “Not that I am aware of. There were two (bids) but again nowhere near what the club would even think about. The point again to reiterate is we are not looking to sell Wesley, that’s the key point.

“He’s not a player we are actively looking to move on but naturally if there is interest from other clubs then of course that is looked at by the club.

“He’s a top young defender and there are not too many about at his age. He’s someone we’d love to keep here but we have to wait and see what develops.”

Rodgers added: “Another year here for him at least would be really important for his development, but he is quite calm and relaxed in the situation. He is aware of the interest.

“He understands where we are as a club and where we see him. He’s just getting on with his work and training well, and whenever there is any communication we are able to have a conversation.”
