Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

According to Relevo, Chelsea’s new owner Todd Boehly had called up Frenkie de Jong over a transfer move.

Boehly said that he wanted the midfielder to join Chelsea.

De Jong was reported to have replied that his preference would be to stay at Barcelona.

Meanwhile, media outlet Mundo Deportivo, claim that De Jong would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge but only if he can’t remain at Barca.

Revelo also insist that Chelsea won’t give up on signing Frenkie de Jong anytime soon.

Some reports still claim that Barcelona are looking to either sell De Jong or get him to lower his wages significantly, and the Dutchman is said to be opposed to both scenarios.

Transfer expert Gerard Romero, has said De Jong is expected to leave Barcelona this week.

Romero has suggested that the Dutchman will join Chelsea this summer.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has responded to the rumours by claiming that De Jong wants to stay at Barcelona.

Laporta said: “Frenkie De Jong is a Barcelona player of great quality and we want him to stay.

“With him and his teammates, we have a very powerful midfield. He has offers, but we want him to stay and he wants to stay too.”
