The Chelsea team looked far from its best against Everton at the Goodison Park on Saturday.

It had to take a Jorginho penalty to score the only goal of the game, just before half-time.

Chelsea found it hard to assert their dominance against the Toffees, and Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel had revealed in his analysis of the game that the wing-back positions were not at its best.

According to Tuchel, the wing-backs position are the main aspect of Chelsea’s formation, and they were lacking in quality against Everton.

Tuchel pointed out that both Ben Chilwell and Reece James weren’t yet up to speed in that game, and it caused the team some problems.

Tuchel said: “Our formation is a deep formation because the centre of the formation is in the three centre backs and the two No6s, so it is a deep formation in which you rely heavily on the two wing-backs.

“Today we played with Ben Chilwell who was not, for me, 100 per cent ready to start but the situation with Marcos Alonso [soon to leave for Barcelona] and the late signing of Marc Cucurella made it necessary that we took the risk.

“Reece [James] struggles also at the moment to have full, full fitness so on the right we didn’t have enough from the wing backs to create a bit more freedom for the inner players.”
