Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Carney Chukwuemeka from Aston Villa.
The club confirmed the deal via its official website: “Carney Chukwuemeka has agreed the terms of a six-year contract at Chelsea and completed his transfer from Aston Villa.
“It follows the announcement earlier this week that we had reached an agreement with Villa for the 18-year-old’s permanent switch to Stamford Bridge.”
Chelsea came out of the blue to seal this deal, as the club beat Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan to seal this deal.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Thomas Tuchel was involved in this deal, as he had to convince the player to join Chelsea.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Barcelona were leading the race for Carney Chukwuemeka before Chelsea made an offer.
“Thomas Tuchel was ‘the man who changed the story’. AC Milan promised the player an important role, also, but he accepted Chelsea because of Tuchel.
“Tuchel thinks he can help the team immediately. There was a meeting last week with Tuchel, Carney Chukwuemeka’s agents and family.”
On completing a move to Chelsea, an excited Chukwuemeka said: “It’s been quite hectic but I couldn’t get Chelsea out of my head the last few days so I’m just happy and relieved that it’s all done.
“I’m so excited and just can’t wait to get on the pitch, meet all the players and try to win games and trophies with Chelsea.”
Chelsea’s deal for Chukwuemeka is believed to be worth an initial £15m, and other clauses could make the fee rise to above £20m.
