Chelsea’s deal to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton is definitely a top one.
The 24-year-old can play as a left centre-back and also as a left back, which makes him a very important addition to the team.
The Spaniard is calm on the ball, can beat the press and will definitely aid Thomas Tuchel’s system, as the German wants his backline to be comfortable on the ball and be able to beat the press.
One other thing that makes Cucurella stand out is his creativity ability.
The Spaniard won Brighton’s Best Player of the Season award last term, and deservedly so.
According to WhoScored, Cucurella created 40 chances from open play, more than any Chelsea player apart from Reece James. The Blues right wing-back created 42 chances.
Creativity has been one of Chelsea’s issues from last season.
Adding Cucurella to the squad would boost Chelsea’s creativity, and if he goes on to play as left centre-back, with Chilwell as a left wing-back, it would make Chelsea’s left flank very fluid.
Moreso, Chelsea’s problem last season started when Ben Chilwell got injured. With the signing of Cucurella, Thomas Tuchel would have two top players he can count on in the left wing-back position.
