‘Honoured to wear the badge’ – Chelsea’s latest signing says after snubbing Real Madrid for Chelsea

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.

Chelsea released an official statement, thus: “American goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina has completed a permanent transfer to Chelsea.

“The 18-year-old has signed a six-year contract with the Blues, joining us from MLS side Chicago Fire where he will return on loan to complete their season before moving to west London at the start of 2023.”

The young American has now said he’s honoured to sign up for Chelsea.

“Honoured to join such a massive club with so much history,” Gabriel Slonina tweeted.

“It’s a privilege to wear the badge of the best side in London. Thank you to all the fans for the warm welcome.

“Can’t wait to get started.

“Thank you to everyone at the club for making a childhood dream come true & thank you to the fans for an amazing warm welcome. The hard work starts now.”

Chelsea beat Real Madrid for the signing of Slonina, as the Blues reached an agreement with MLS team Chicago Fire for U.S. youth international goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina for a base fee of $10 million that could rise to $15m with add-ons.

The 18-year-old has signed a six-year contract with Chelsea, and is the club’s third signing of the summer.

Slonina will stay with the MLS team on loan for their current season before joining Chelsea.
