Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has welcomed the signing of new Chelsea centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.

Koulibaly joined Chelsea from Napoli, as the 31-year-old defender signed a four-year deal with Chelsea.

Koulibaly impressed during pre-season games for Chelsea, and Thiago Silva is happy with his new centre-back partner.

Silva who speaks French fluently, also revealed that the defence usually communicate in French, as Edouard Mendy, Koulibaly and Cesar Azpilicueta can all speak French.

“It was good,” Thiago Silva told the official Chelsea website about the start of his partnership with Kalidou Koulibaly at the heart of the Blues’ defence.

“He is a player with a lot of experience. He played in Italian football, which for me is the best defensive schooling you can possibly receive. He is ready for our ideas.

“He played 70 minutes, and on Saturday [against Everton] he will be ready to play 90.

“Normally we speak in French, because Edou does too, and Azpi, it worked well,” the Brazilian added.

“The communication is not a problem, we can speak many different languages together.”
