Man City would regret this transfer business with Chelsea – Former Blue claims

Former Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has hailed Chelsea’s signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.

Chelsea paid £47.5m for the 27-year-old England international, as he became Chelsea’s first signing of the Todd Boehly era.

Sterling had been an important player for City over the past seven years, but his position was under threat following City’s recent addition to the team.

Thomas Tuchel was impressed with the transfer, and Glen Johnson believes City will go on to regret it.

Glen Johnson said: “I think [Manchester City could regret selling Raheem Sterling to Chelsea]. It could be a potential banana skin because he is a great player, Chelsea have a decent squad, and they are going to be competing.

“You just don’t know. If Raheem Sterling hits the ground running then he could easily pop up with fifteen goals a season and plenty of assists and they’ll win a few more matches than they did last year. I think it’s a tricky one for City.”

When asked what kind of player Chelsea still need to add to their squad, Johnson replied: “It’s hard to put a finger on exactly the player Chelsea need, but I do think they’ve done a fair bit of business this summer and finding these players that are not breaking the bank that are established and older.

“I know it’s not great for the youngsters, but those youngsters have got to be better. Everyone’s got to try harder to get into the team when the squad’s better.”
