It was a comfortable victory for Chelsea at the Dacia Arena, as Chelsea defeated Udinese 3-1.
The Blues played a fine game from start to finish, albeit a moment of error game the home side a goal just before half time.
N’Golo Kante fired Chelsea to the lead 20 minutes into the game, with a well placed shot from outside the box.
On the 37th minute, Raheem Sterling finished off a fine pass from Jorginho to score the second for Chelsea.
Just before half-time, Gerard Deulofeu turned in a rebound which Edouard Mendy parried from a Roberto Pereyra shot to make it 2-1.
Mason Mount scored a tap-in on the 90th minute mark, following a fine move from Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Chelsea would play another friendly with Udinese on Saturday, but this time, it would be behind closed doors, as Thomas Tuchel will give the other members of the squad to gain match sharpness ahead of the start of the season.
2 major lessons from the game:
- Chelsea still need to sign in attack. The Blues played well with a front three of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz, but more work still needs to be done if Chelsea want to compete for the Premier League.
- Edouard Mendy should be kept on his toes. The Senegal international was brilliant two seasons ago as he helped Chelsea win the Champions League. However, Mendy must continue to maintain that high standard if he wants to remain as Chelsea’s number one.
I hope the Blues will work hard this season.
