Chelsea’s deal for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde was seemingly in the bag, but that may no longer be the case as Barcelona now seem intent on hijacking the deal.
Chelsea seemed close to signing Kounde with a new £55m bid, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shared new update on the Jules Kounde transfer saga.
According to his report, Xavi has called the player and his camp may be ready to accept personal terms with Barcelona.
Romano tweeted: “Barcelona have received indications from Jules Koundé’s camp in the last hours: the player would be prepared to accept personal terms proposal.
“Xavi, also called him. Chelsea discussed personal terms with Koundé days ago, but still no green light from Sevilla/player.”
It however seems Sevilla would prefer to do business with Chelsea than Barcelona, as Chelsea’s offer is more juicy. But Barcelona are trying to gauge the interest of the player as they did in the Raphinha saga.
Matt Law however believes that Chelsea are still leading the race for Kounde, although Barca are making it difficult.
Matt Law said: “Kounde situation – Chelsea still working on it. Worth remembering that Monchi is a notoriously tough operator and Chelsea thought they had him last year only for the goalposts to move very late.
“Barca situation not helping this time. Not done but not over, either.”
