Chelsea are confident of sealing a deal for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.

Chelsea and Barcelona were the two clubs in the race for the 23-year-old defender, but it seems it’s only Chelsea who are now going for the France international.

Chelsea had earlier seen a bid rejected for Kounde worth around £50m, but the Blues have since submitted a fresh £55m bid for Jules Kounde.

The deal for Kounde is on a fast track, and the Frenchman will sign for Chelsea on a five-year deal.

Barcelona have pulled out of the race and are unwilling to match Chelsea’s offer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said: “Barcelona feel Chelsea’s proposal for Jules Koundé is “too important” to be matched. £55m to Sevilla with very good payment terms, almost €9/10m salary on a five year contract.

“Chelsea contracts, ready in Sevilla’s hands since yesterday. Deal at final stages.”

Kounde’s decision to join Sevilla’s training camp wasn’t at all detrimental to the transfer.

According to The Sun, Kounde says he considered it ‘unprofessional’ to stay in Spain and train alone while he remains a Sevilla player, which explains his decision to join Sevilla’s trip to Portugal.

Everybody was stunned when Kounde turned up for the bus to Lagos.

“But he feels he should be a ‘professional’ while still a Sevilla player.”
