Chelsea were linked with a move for Gabriel Jesus, but the Brazilian ended up signing for Arsenal.

Arsenal sealed a £45million deal to sign Jesus from Manchester City.

Jesus’ agent Marcelo Pettinati has revealed Chelsea tried to hijack the deal, but the Blues came in too late, when the deal had reached an advanced stage.

“Chelsea were one of the teams that tried to hijack the Arsenal move,” Jesus’ agent Marcelo Pettinati told journalist Freddie Paxton.

“They tried very hard in the final days to get him. By that point, we’d already chosen our new project.”

Jesus had worked with Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta at Manchester City, and it played a decisive factor in Jesus picking Arsenal.

“We spoke a couple of times about the club, the players, the project and the future,” Jesus told Arsenal’s official website.

“I believe 100 per cent in Mikel. I had a very good time with him before, he’s a very good guy and a very good coach as well.

“He helped me a lot [at Manchester City]. We would always stick together after the training sessions and do some finishing or something.

“He’s a very intelligent guy and was an amazing player, so if he knows something he can teach me or the young players.”

Chelsea have lost in attempts to sign two Brazilians this summer – Raphinha and Gabriel Jesus.

In the case of Jesus, the Blues came to the party very late, and this could have been as a result of the sanction and change of ownership, as Chelsea started very late in the transfer market.

For all its lateness, the Blues have done well to secure the signing of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly.
