Chelsea have signed up Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli, and the Blues are looking to sign up at least two more centre-backs before the start of the season.
Chelsea are deficit in the centre-back position following the departure of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, which explains Thomas Tuchel’s decision to go for three centre-backs, also considering the age of Thiago Silva who will soon turn 38.
According to reports, Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Manchester City defender Nathan Ake, and the Blues have also been linked with Presnel Kimpembe, Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt.
Former Chelsea defender William Gallas, has told Chelsea to focus on Kounde and De Ligt, insisting that Nathan Ake isn’t up to Chelsea’s standard.
“Those two players (De Ligt and Kounde) are really good defenders. I think they can fit at Chelsea, they are strong, very intelligent, powerful defenders,” Gallas told Metro.co.uk for Genting Casino.
“De Ligt, I am sure if he comes to the Premier League and Chelsea, I’m sure he will have a good season, better than at Juventus.
“Kounde is a young player but he’s very smart and can play with three at the back. For me, you have to be trying to buy those two players, it’s simple.
“You have to buy two players because Thiago Silva is old now, I don’t know if he’ll be able to play the whole season or next season if he’ll be at Chelsea. They have to look to buy De Ligt and Kounde.
“Ake from City? No. If I had a choice I would take De Ligt and Kounde, they are at another level.”
