Saul Niguez has finished his loan spell with Chelsea and has returned to Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea had the option to make Saul Niguez deal permanent, but the Blues didn’t tick that option, as the Spaniard failed to impress.
The 27-year-old managed just 1200 minutes of football across twelve starts for Chelsea – with a total of 23 appearances, and 10 appearances in the league.
Saul was expected to be a brilliant signing for Chelsea, but it just didn’t work for the Spaniard.
Saul struggled massively on his debut against Aston Villa, and had to be hauled off at half-time.
He grew in confidence as the season wore on, but didn’t do enough to justify a permanent deal.
Nevertheless, the Spain international is grateful for his time at Chelsea and has sent a farewell message to the club.
According to Saul Niguez, he learnt a lot from the loan deal.
In quotes provided by AS, via Sport Witness, Saul said: “Despite the fact that I have not had the minutes I wanted, I think it has been a good experience for me to leave at a time when mentally I was not feeling well.
“I have been able to reset, learn about a new culture, lead a new life, meet a new club, new fans.
“I can only be grateful to the people at Chelsea for their trust & to my teammates for making the year so easy for me & helping me.”
“I think this season has helped me to improve in many aspects, I have learned a lot, and that will come in handy for this new season.”
