Chelsea’s links with Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina seems to have slowed down in recent weeks.
Petr Cech was pushing for a move for the talented goalkeeper, and Chelsea had hijacked the deal from Real Madrid.
Chelsea had already made plans to sign Gabriel Slonina and loan him back to Chicago Fire, but that move may have reached a dead end.
Chelsea legend Petr Cech was spearheading the move, but that is no longer the case.
The legendary goalkeeper played a key role in bringing current Blues no1 Edouard Mendy to Chelsea, and he had sighted this youngster, Slonina, as one for the future.
A recent report by Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Cech’s exit has left the deal in serious jeopardy, with the MLS side waiting to see if the deal collapses.
Since Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club, Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck have also vacated their roles, alongside Cech and long-time goalkeeping goal Christophe Lollichon.
In a brief statement last month, Cech explained his decision to move on from his position as Technical and Performance Director at Chelsea.
Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years.
“With the Club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside.
“I am pleased that the Club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”
