Chelsea are being linked with a move for Sporting CP midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Portuguese media outlet A Bola had claimed some days ago that Chelsea are ready to table an offer of £42.8 million, including bonuses, for the midfielder this summer.

The Sporting Lisbon star has quickly zoomed up the shortlist at Stamford Bridge, as Todd Boehly seeks to improve Thomas Tuchel’s ailing squad ahead of the new season.

Although the midfield isn’t a key place Chelsea will work on this summer, the Blues may sign one midfielder this window, and Nunes is now on Chelsea’s shopping list.

Other Portuguese sources have claimed that Chelsea are monitoring the Nunes situation, and are among the top clubs targeting a move for the 23-year-old.

Jorge Mendes is the agent of Matheus Nunes – which further explains Todd Boehly’s meeting with the superstar agent.

Thomas Tuchel is working hard to remodel his attack and defence ahead of next season, but he may also tinker the midfield a little – and Matheus Nunes fits that bill.

Nunes ability to beat the press and his skills on the ball, have made him a target of some of Europe’s top sides.

Manchester City faced Sporting last season in the Champions League,  and Pep Guardiola hailed Nunes as one of the best players in the world.

He said: “Sporting are a fantastic team, they are the champions of Portugal, which have a very strong league, with Porto and Benfica, they change the ball well, they have fast and intelligent players.

“I would say that Matheus Nunes is one of the best players in the world today.”
