Chelsea are set to announce the signing of Raheem Sterling from Manchester City.
Sterling has signed a new deal that will see him overtake N’Golo Kante as Chelsea’s highest earner with his £300,000-a-week deal.
The deal for Sterling isn’t the only one Chelsea are pushing through from Pep Guardiola’s side.
According to Sport, Chelsea are in ‘advanced talks’ with Manchester City over a deal to re-sign Nathan Ake.
The talks have ‘accelerated’ over the past few days and Ake is ‘open’ to joining Chelsea.
Although no deal has been reached yet, ‘serious talks’ have been held over a transfer for the Netherlands international.
The transfer fee has been discussed, as have personal terms with the centre-back, and plans are in place for Ake to return to Stamford Bridge.
Ake has made 40 appearances in two seasons with Manchester City, and has found it hard to break into the Man City team.
Ake is expected to have more playing minutes at Chelsea, as he comes in as part of the replacement for the departed Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has however questioned the deal.
According to Johnson, Ake isn’t a suitable replacement for the departed Antonio Rudiger, and his signing isn’t the one that will excite the fans.
Speaking to GGRecon, Johnson was asked whether Chelsea fans would feel “underwhelmed” if Ake was the man to replace Rudiger. The former Blues right-back said: “Yes, definitely.
“No disrespect to Ake, but I think most people were surprised when he went to Manchester City, certainly for that amount of money [£40m]. Put it this way, he didn’t blow my mind when he was at Bournemouth. He’s just ‘OK’.
“Then we saw the amount of money for him to go to City, and it was like: ‘Jesus, where have they seen that?!’. I don’t think he’s a suitable replacement for Rudiger at all.”
