According to reports, Manchester City star Raheem Sterling is set to sign for Chelsea within the next 24 hours.
Sterling has already agreed personal terms that will make him the highest paid player at Chelsea, with wages of £300k per week.
Sterling scored 13 goals in the Premier League last season and started 23 games. The 27-year-old has always been an influential player since signing for Man City, but his reputation dropped last season.
Former Premier League defender and brother of Rio Ferdinand, Anton, has warned that Man City may be making a mistake in selling Sterling to Chelsea.
“Me personally, if I’m Man City, I’m keeping him,” the former QPR man told Sky Sports.
“I would try everything I can to tie him down to a new contract. He’s a fantastic player, he’s also a consistent performer and someone who has done it over the years in the Premier League.
“So, for Man City to be wanting to or happy to get rid of him, that shocks me.
“But as we know, they’ve got an abundance of depth in them areas of the pitch. If he goes, then they’ve got someone of great quality to come in and take his place.”
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has also backed Raheem Sterling to be a good signing for Chelsea.
He wrote in a column for Sky Sports: “I think Sterling would be a great signing. I would worry about Man City selling Sterling as you’re selling a lot of goals. People always go to me, ‘He’s always at the far post tapping them in’.
“He’s not pushing anybody out the way to tap those goals in. There’s an art to what he does and he will be a massive miss to Man City next season if he leaves.
“I think if Chelsea went and got him, I think that would be a major signing, especially when you’re getting a top-quality international footballer who is at one of the top teams in the world.”
