With pre-season underway, Chelsea have announced a new pre-season fixture against Serie A side Udinese.
Thomas Tuchel’s side prepare to fly out to the USA for a tour of the US, where the Blues will play Club America, Charlotte FC and Premier League rivals Arsenal during.
During the tour of the United States, Chelsea will travel from the west over to the east, starting in Las Vegas and ending in Orlando, Florida.
The Chelsea team is expected to fly out on Saturday, July 9, and Chelsea’s first pre-season fixture is scheduled for Sunday, July 17 against Mexican outfit Club America.
Chelsea would face Charlotte on the 21st, and then Arsenal two days later.
Six days after the game against Arsenal, the Blues will play Udinese in Italy.
The match against Udinese will be played on Friday 29 July, with kick-off at 8pm UK time (9pm local time), at their 25,000-seater Dacia Arena home.
Chelsea played Udinese there in a pre-season match in August 2001 – a 1-1 draw, with the Blues goal courtesy of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink header from a Gianfranco Zola cross.
With Chelsea set to sign Raheem Sterling, Hasselbaink has advised the club to also sign a goalscorer.
He said: “They need a goalscorer. Sterling’s a great player, a very good player but he’s not an out and out number nine.
“So I think if you’re gonna get Sterling you still need a goalscorer with him.
“We all know about Sterling and what he can do, how good he is, how quick he is and how determined he is, so great signing. But I still think they need a 20+ goalscorer in their squad.”
