Chelsea have been linked with a move for Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, and it seems the 22-year-old has become a priority signing for the Blues.
Chelsea have also stepped up in their pursuit of De Ligt, as the Blues seek to sign replacements for Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.
According to Football Italia, Chelsea have tabled a bid of €80 million for the 22-year-old centre-back, which is an improvement on the club’s initial offer of €46 million-plus Timo Werner.
The Netherlands international has evolved into one of the most promising young talents in Europe, starting from his time with Ajax before his move to Juventus in 2019.
De Ligt joined Juventus in a deal worth €75 million and has helped the club win a Coppa Italia and a Serie A title.
Thomas Tuchel is said to be a huge admirer of De Ligt, and he sees the 22-year-old as a long-term replacement for the ageing Thiago Silva.
De Ligt’s physical presence, composure on the ball, and tenacity has made him an ideal signing for Thomas Tuchel.
Chelsea’s new €80 million bid for the former Ajax star is close to Juventus’ reported €90 million asking price, with reports claiming that Juve may most likely accept this bid.
According to Chelsea reporter Vince, he said on Twitter: “Chelsea made contact again with Juventus on Monday and aims to close the deal for De Ligt.
“A 5-year contract is ready for the defender with an option for the sixth worth €12-13 million net plus bonuses.”
Bayern Munich have also been linked with a move for De Ligt, but the Bundesliga side are yet to table a bid.
Some reports claim De Ligt is more interested in a move to Chelsea.
