Chelsea have been linked with a move for Paris Saint-Germain star forward Neymar.
PSG had previously made it clear that they no longer need the Brazilian, and are open to selling him.
Neymar’s stock has dropped in Paris, and the Brazilian was booed by the PSG supporters in the wake of their Champions League exit last season, and is no longer indispensable at the club.
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi appeared to have sent an indirect message which indicated that Neymar had no future at PSG.
“Dreams are one thing, reality is another,” Al-Khelaifi told Le Parisien.
“Perhaps we should change our slogan… dream bigger is good, but today we must be realistic, we don’t want flashy, bling-bling anymore, it’s the end of the glitter.”
In a separate interview with Marca, Al-Khelaifi refused to rule out the prospect of the forward leaving PSG.
“We can’t talk about it in the media, some will come and some will go, but these are private negotiations,” said PSG’s president.
“We want young, talented, committed players with a winning mentality, people who want to die for this badge.
“We want to be stronger collectively, to play as a team and for the club to be above all.”
However, the Brazilian has now activated a clause in his contract to extend his stay at Paris Saint-Germain until 2027.
Neymar most recently put pen to paper on a five-year contract extension in 2021.
While PSG are trying to offload him, he has now activated his annual extension option, which means his deal will stretch until 2027, according to The Sun.
That means Neymar is set to earn £155million more from PSG with the forward being paid £31m a year.
PSG are short of potential buyers for Neymar due to his wages of £600k per week, and no club would be ready to pay that much for a 30-year-old.
Neymar and his Chelsea links may not hold much water, and the Brazilian hasn’t showed signs that he wants to leave PSG yet.
