Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has insisted it is ‘impossible’ to keep a player who wants to leave the club.

This is coming after Chelsea’s interest in Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.

Chelsea are in the market to sign at least two centre-backs this summer, and the Blues have been linked with Sevilla’s defender Jules Kounde, Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, Manchester City’s Nathan Ake and Juventus Matthijs de Ligt.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, has confirmed Chelsea’s interest in De Ligt.

However, it’s yet to be seen which of the centre-backs Chelsea would sign, as the club seeks replacement for the departed Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

Chelsea’s links to De Ligt has been growing stronger, and the young centre-back is valued between £60m to £80m.

The 22-year-old signed for Juventus from Ajax in 2019 after impressing in the Dutch club’s run to the UEFA Champions League semi-final under new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s leadership.

De Ligt was signed up for £65m, and the deal had add-ons that could rise to £75m, and Juve would demand big money if they are to sell the Dutchman.

Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport has claimed that De Ligt had turned down Juventus offer of a contract renewal.

Reports claim De Ligt wants to leave Juve, and Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene has maintained that it would be impossible to keep a player who wants to leave.

He said: ‘It’s impossible to keep players when they want to leave the club – but all the three parties in the negotiations have to be satisfied.’

A cash plus player swap deal has been mooted, and Gianluca Di Marzio, has claimed that the Blues had offered Juventus around £25m plus Timo Werner for the Netherlands international – a proposal the Serie A side dismissed immediately.
