The Todd Boehly era hasn’t started on a note that would be pleasing to the Chelsea fans.
The Blues are yet to make a significant signing in the transfer window, but key board members have decided to leave the club following Todd Boehly’s.
Chelsea legend Petr Cech has today confirmed that he’d step down his role with the club this month.
The Blues legend has stepped down from his role as Technical and Performance Director at Chelsea, as there continues to be a mass exodus of Chelsea board members following Todd Boehly’s takeover of the club.
Cech is seen as the club’s greatest goalkeeper in the Premier League era, and he spent 11 years at the club during his playing career before a short spell at Arsenal.
Upon his retirement, Cech returned to Chelsea, where he assumed the role of technical and performance director.
Cech’s departure follows the exits of Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck, who have both left their roles since Boehly completed his takeover of the club from Roman Abramovich.
Chelsea fans have reacted negatively to news that Petr Cech has decided to step down his role, and many don’t believe Todd Boehly is threading the right path.
In a brief statement, Cech explained his decision to move on.
Cech said: “It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years.
“With the Club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside.
“I am pleased that the Club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future success both on and off the pitch.”
Chelsea chairman and co-owner Todd Boehly, has reacted to Cech’s decision to step down from his role.
Boehly acknowledged that he understands Cech’s decision and wishes him the best.
He said: “Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family.
“We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best.”
