Chelsea defender David Luiz has urged his teammates to improve following Saturday’s 2-1 win over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge.

Luiz provided the assist for Pedro’s opener before Newcastle’s Ciaran Clark headed home a corner shortly before the break.

Willian’s delightful second-half goal gave Chelsea all three points against Newcastle but Luiz believes Chelsea should have killed the game in the first 25 minutes.

Luiz wants Chelsea to stop offering a lifeline to our opponents by killing the game when we have opportunities.

“It’s an important win, it’s three points at home and we did the job,” said Luiz. “It was not an easy game for us. I think we could have killed the game in the first 25 minutes, but we didn’t score the second goal.

“In the Premier League every team can be dangerous from set-pieces and that is what happened. ‘They scored the equaliser and after that it is always difficult but I think the team was mature enough to be calm at half-time. Then, in the second half, we controlled the game and scored the second goal.

“I think we have to improve because you cannot give your opponents openings. When you have time and opportunities to kill the game, you have to do it.”

Luiz also hailed Pedro for scoring from his pass.

“Of course, we have to train because we have to try to improve ourselves every day,” Luiz said. “In football, things aren’t going to come from the sky, you have to train hard and try to improve.

“Pedro’s movement was great, his control was great and his finish was great. It’s not just about the pass, I think it’s about the quality from him.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
