Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri wants a replacement for Cesc Fabregas, who joined Monaco last week for a fee believed to be around £10 million.
Chelsea want to sign either Cagliari’s Nicolo Barella or Zenit’s Leandro Paredes as the replacement for Fabregas and according to reports, Chelsea have now agreed terms with one the midfielders.
According to La Gazette dello Sport journalist Nicolo Schirra, Paredes has agreed to join Chelsea after agreeing a five-year deal worth £77k per week.
“Chelsea wants to close Leandro Paredes from Zenit,” Schira tweeted.
“Marina Granovskaia has offered €30 million for him and awaits an answer.
“He wants to leave from Russia: agreement to sign a contract until 2023 (€4.5 million per year).”
The Argentina international sparked speculation he is set to join by sharing a video entitled ‘Welcome to Chelsea’ on Twitter to his 141,000 followers.
Jorginho failed to impress against Newcastle on Saturday and Sarri revealed after the game he needs another midfielder as an option to Jorginho following Fabregas’s departure.
“Today Jorginho was in trouble and on the bench there wasn’t a player for that position so I need a player for that position,” Sarri said.
“I have no idea [if we will sign a replacement].
“The club knows very well my opinion. I need a player there so it depends on the club’s decision.
“I cannot do any more.”
