Chelsea are rumoured to be interested in signing a new striker as Alvaro Morata has failed to live up to expectations that came with a hefty price tag.
AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuain is the one who has been most linked with Chelsea, while Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi has also been linked but nothing concrete has been made.
Icardi’s agent Wanda Nara has revealed that the 25-year-old is not close to signing a new long-term deal at Inter.
Icardi is under contract at Inter until 2021 and has a £90million release clause. The 25-year-old has proven that his form isn’t temporary, and has scored 13 goals in 22 games this season.
Nara has revealed that a number of clubs are keeping tabs on Icardi including a Premier League club – which many suspect to be Chelsea.
“Icardi’s renewal with Inter is a long way off as things stand today,” she told AS.
“There are very important clubs that are interested in signing Mauro and we are very far from reaching an agreement
“The figures that are being talked about in Italy about his contract renewal are not accurate. So far, we have not received a satisfactory offer from Inter.
“It is not logical for Mauro to renew on the same salary that he receives now. We believe that Mauro is at a superior level.”
She added: “We have a very good relationship with the two biggest clubs in Spain who are very interested in Mauro, as well as one in France and one in England.”
On Alvaro Morata, Sevilla director of football Joaquin Caparros has confirmed that the club are interested in signing the Chelsea striker.
“We are interested in Morata but it is a very, very complicated operation,” Caparros said.
“The player may want to come here over other options but the negotiations with Chelsea will be very complicated.”
For Gonzalo Higuain, Marca claim Chelsea are willing to pay Higuain’s salary, as well as a potential €40 million (£36m) transfer fee to make the loan move permanent in the summer.
Marca add Higuain could now arrive in west London in the coming hours as the Blues look to rush through a deal.
