Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is desperate to sign a striker this January and the Blues have been linked with several strikers including Gonzalo Higuain and Callum Wilson.
Sarri reportedly prefers Higuain after working with the striker at Napoli and according to Marca, Chelsea are closing in on the 31-year-old Argentina international. The report even claims a deal for Higuain could be completed within a matter of hours.
Higuain is currently on loan at AC Milan and according to Standard Sport, the striker wants to cut short his season-long loan from Juventus to AC Milan so he can move to Stamford Bridge.
Standard Sport claims the agent of Higuain travelled to London on Thursday morning and it is believed he is in London to discuss the move.
AC Milan have an option to pay £32 million in the summer to make the switch permanent and Higuain’s parent club Juventus want Chelsea to adhere to the same terms to have Higuain on loan for the season.
Chelsea are however reluctant to pay that much for an ageing player.
Daily Express claim the Chelsea board are unconvinced over a move for Higuain this month, despite Sarri’s plea to sign his former striker.
With Higuain recently turning 31, the Chelsea board have doubts whether the AC Milan star is a long-term solution.
Should Chelsea sign Higuain this month, Alvaro Morata is expected to leave Stamford Bridge after struggling to impress since his move from Real Madrid.
He could go to AC Milan as part of the deal to bring Higuain to Chelsea. Spanish clubs Sevilla and Atletico Madrid are also reportedly interested in the Chelsea striker.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone did not rule out trying to bring Morata back to La Liga. He said: “I can’t confirm or deny anything because coaches wait to see what the club can do.”
Sevilla director of football Joaquin Caparros also recently confirmed Sevilla are interested in signing Morata.
“We are interested in Morata but it is a very, very complicated operation,” Caparros said.
“The player may want to come here over other options but the negotiations with Chelsea will be very complicated.”
According to reports, Morata’s agent Juanma Lopez has held talks with Caparros over a potential move to Sevilla.
