Chelsea lost to Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the Carabao Cup semi-final clash at Wembley, and the only goal of the game was a controversial penalty scored by Harry Kane.

Chelsea dominated play for most parts of the game, and the Blues had more opportunities than Spurs. But at the end of the day, it was Spurs who won the game.

Chelsea put in a far better performance than the 3-1 defeat the team suffered at Wembley in December.

Speaking before the match, Sarri vowed that the team was going to have a better game against Spurs and that the players have shown enough determination which was missing when Tottenham were overwhelmingly good when the two teams met in November.

“The level of determination now is good,” said Sarri. “But we still have to solve some problems.

“Sometimes during matches we have not had the right reaction to difficulties and negative situations. In the last match

we were not able to have the right reaction to a positive situation!

“After our second goal we conceded four shots on goal in two minutes. We need to learn we cannot lower our application in the defensive phase.”

Speaking after the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, Sarri revealed that he was impressed with the team’s performance this time around.

He said: “I think we deserved more. I think in this match we played better than the opponents. We defended very well, we deserved more.

“We played about 70 balls in the opposing box compared to 11, more shots compared to Tottenham. I am disappointed with the result but pleased with the performance.”

Sarri also said: “We played with a very good level of determination, with heart and soul. In the last matches we have had problems in the last 30 minutes, but today the application was very good throughout.”

Sarri was asked if Chelsea have the advantage over Spurs, he refused to see any advantage but insisted that the team will go through it they produce another good performance.

He said: “I don’t think so, it is a tough match for us and them. If we can play on the same level then we can do it.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
