Cesar Azpilicueta is Chelsea’s undisputed first-choice in the right-back role with Davide Zappacosta providing competition for the Spanish international.

If we are to believe reports coming out of Brazil, Chelsea could soon provide Azpilicueta with another competition at right-back.

According to Brazilian newspaper O Tempo, Chelsea are scouting 19-year-old Atletico Mineiro right-back Emerson.

The 19-year-old right-back started his career at Ponte Preta, getting promoted to the first-team in 2015 before earning a move to Atletico Mineiro in April of this year.

He has become an important player for Atletico Mineiro since joining six months ago and has started 17 of Atletico Mineiro’s last 19 Serie A matches.

Chelsea scouts reportedly watched Emerson in action in Atletico Mineiro’s 1-1 draw against Palmeiras on Sunday with the Blues reportedly preparing a bid in the region of £8million.

Premier League rivals Arsenal have also been linked with the Brazil U20 international but Emerson could be tempted to turn down Arsenal for Chelsea with Brazilian players like David Luiz and Willian in the Chelsea squad.

Chelsea have also been linked with another right-back, Napoli’s Elseid Hysaj with his agent recently confirming Napoli are open to selling the right-back with the Italian club reportedly interested in SPAL’s Manuel Lazzari, who turns 25 later this month.

“If you see Napoli are playing Kevin Malcuit and hear they’re looking at other players, it means there are also enquiries,” agent Mario Giuffredi told Radio CRC.

“Those who say otherwise are misinformed. Hysaj is a player who can do well in English football, given he’s very physical and being watched by big clubs.”
