Chelsea star Eden Hazard travelled for Chelsea’s Europa League clash with BATE Borisov in Belarus but four key Chelsea players failed to make the trip for the game.

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri opted to rest Alvaro Morata, David Luiz, Marcos Alonso and Antonio Rudiger for the game on Thursday.

Hazard missed three matches with a back problem before returning as a substitute in Sunday’s Premier League 3-1 win over Crystal Palace and Sarri is keen to build up Hazard’s fitness against BATE Borisov after his injury recovery.

Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas failed to make the trip to Belarus due to a late illness.

Sarri wants Hazard to get some match action ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash with Everton and he believes playing Hazard against BATE Borisov isn’t a risk.

“For our doctor, there is not any risk, otherwise he would stay in Cobham, of course,” Sarri said.

“We thought for him it’s better to play, not for 90 minutes, but to play after two weeks without training.

“In the last match he played only for 30 minutes. Tomorrow the best for him is he will play 45, 50 minutes.”

Chelsea have won all three Europa League games so far and a fourth win against BATE Borisov later today will secure Chelsea’s progress to the knockout stage of the competition.
