Alvaro Morata’s performance against Crystal Palace was one with mixed feelings, as he started the game on a high but ended on a low as Chelsea defeated Palace 3-1 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.

Morata is beginning to find his feet in recent games, and is now getting back form and confidence. The Spain international has now scored four goals in his last four games in the Premier League – a very impressive stat for a player that has struggled since last season.

Morata bagged an impressive brace against the Eagles, and he could have gotten a hat-trick in the game but wrong decision showed signs of a Morata that still hasn’t overcome last season’s struggles. Morata was left one on one with Wayne Hennessy after a fine pass from Eden Hazard, but he squandered the chance with a tame lop over the goalkeeper.

Speaking after the game, Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri hailed Morata’s performance, but also hinted that the 25-year-old must improve and overcome his fragile nature.

He told the BBC: “I am really very happy for Alvaro. He improved in the last month in confidence and personality.

“He improved also from a tactical and technical point of view. He plays with more continuity from the team.

“He has great potential physically and technically. He can improve more. Potentially he can be (a top striker at a top club). Sometimes he is a little bit fragile.”

Morata was likened to Blues legend Didier Drogba and was asked if there were similarities between Morata and Drogba.

“Physically not perhaps,” Sarri added.

“Drogba was one of the best in the world for 15 years but Alvaro is very fast, not in the first two or three steps, but if he has to run for 40 metres. He’s strong but not like Drogba, Drogba was too much.

“For Alvaro, goals have to be a consequence, he has to play for the team and his team-mates without thinking about goals. That is a consequence of the team and the individual performance. He’s a little bit fragile from the mental point of view but he’s very young and he can improve very fast.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
