It was Thursday night at Stamford Bridge and chants of ‘he’s one of our own’ reverberated around the stadium as the Chelsea faithful celebrated their young prodigy, Ruben Loftus Cheek. The player’s burgeoning reputation ever since coming onto the scene in his loan stint at Crystal Place and also making England’s World Cup squad has been remarkable.
Against Belarusian side, BATE Borisov in the Europa League, the midfielder further staked his claim for a regular place in Chelsea’s first team with a superb performance capped with a hat-trick. The player’s performance was pleasing and with Chelsea’s striking force struggling for goals, Ruben Loftus-Cheek can be Chelsea and Sarri’s wildcard this season. The player’s physicality can be a threat to defenders as the Premier League’s physical style might just need a player of calibre to lead Chelsea’s attack.
More so, the player can play as false nine in a similar way Sarri did with Dries Mertens at Napoli. This will also give Chelsea an advantage in midfield too as the player can also drop in there and do a job for the team. Loftus-Cheek’s technical ability complemented with an eye for goal might just be what we need as a backup plan if not the main plan. With our two strikers, Giroud and Morata misfiring at the moment, this might just be the perfect time for Sarri to try something new – a wildcard. Who knows Loftus-Cheek might just be the answer to Chelsea’s striking problems.
Let’s hope for the best. Cheers!
