To be honest, our two available strikers, Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have not done quite badly this season. They both have a couple of goals and assists to their name thus far, even if the return on the former has been appalling by popular standards.

Giroud has been hailed as the best striker to play with on the planet by teammate, Eden Hazard, particularly judging by his hold up play. And Morata has added a number of important goals this term. But if we must be objective, and face reality, the two of them don’t look primed to help our title charge.

I was discussing football with a colleague, and he brought my attention to an often ignored truth— no title winning team (at least, in recent years) has done so without a prolific goalscorer. I hesitated to agree with his assertion initially, but I gave it a thought, and realised how right he was.

If we look at our recent history, we have won the league these past times with the help of our strikers and prolific midfielders. Didier Drogba is a name that quickly comes to mind, but so do Diego Costa, and Frank Lampard.

Hazard has shown he has the goals in him, and has probably showed up for us so far this season, but can he keep it up? What happens when his goals dry up or he is down with injury? That is why Chelsea need an out and out striker that can score and get us as little as 20 goals a season. Close rivals, City and Tottenham have both excelled in recent season because they have powerful and prolific forwards in Aguero, Jesus, and Kane. If we had someone that close, our story would be different.

I don’t think we have really struggled to create in recent months, we have done well in that regard, but our forwards have failed to convert. If we had a better goalscorer, we probably would be top of the pile.

It is something worth looking into, and hopefully, Sarri is already thinking about it. January will be a time to add, and we’re hoping to lay hands on someone decent.

What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
