Anyone who has followed the career development of Chelsea’s Academy sensation will have two words in mind: ‘break’ and ‘make’.
The midfielder had long been touted as the most likely academy player that would break and make it into the first team at Chelsea. But lack of opportunities saw Ruben’s career development halted. But on the back of a successful loan spell at Crystal Palace, the player has been transformed, even making the England squad for the World Cup currently ongoing in Russia.
Now, Chelsea face a dilemma with the stock of Loftus-Cheek rising so high. Do Chelsea bring him back at the Bridge to kick-start his career at the club or loan him out again to gain more first team experience? The pro to this is that if Chelsea decide keep him at the club, then we should be ready to give him the chance as a first team regular. This means the likes of Danny Drinkwater, Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko will all fall down the pecking order with the exception of N’Golo Kante.
Also, Chelsea will only be able to sign another midfielder if we sell off the others vying for a spot with Loftus-Cheek. The con is that if he is guaranteed a first team place at the club and fail to perform, then this will raise for dust for the club.
Whatever decision the club takes will be crucial in the player’s career development as it has the propensity to make him or break him.
Let’s hope for the best. You can share your thoughts on this in the comment zone. Cheers!
