Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger was given a rest in Chelsea’s home game against Crystal Palace as Blues captain Gary Cahill was given a start in that game.
Rudiger has taken Cahill’s spot in the team of recent, but had a minor injury fear which kept him out of the Palace game.
However, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has admitted that the Germany international is fit and in contention for tonight’s Champions League showdown against Barcelona.
Conte said in his press conference ahead of the game: “But I think, for the manager, for every coach, it’s not simple to sleep a lot, especially before this type of game. In this case, I think I slept the right (amount).
“We must be very excited for this type of game. I hope, also, my players are the same, have the same excitement. Then team news? Rudiger is in contention for tomorrow’s game. No (other) news. No one ruled out.”
