Eden Hazard was critical of the role he played in the game against Manchester City last Sunday. Chelsea lost the game 1-0 at the Etihad Stadium and Hazard who was deployed as a false nine didn’t make any meaningful impact in that game.
The Belgian was restored back to his normal position against Crystal Palace during the weekend as he played from the wing, and he gave a good account of himself.
On his performance, Conte said: “He played a good game and also had chances to score. We didn’t take a lot of chances that we created today.
“The commitment was good and for this reason we must be very happy.”
In the first leg against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge, Conte played a front three of Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian – and the trio caused Barcelona too many problems on the break. However, the same tactics failed woefully against Manchester City as the Blues were unable to get a single shot on target all game.
Conte returned to using a targetman against Crystal Palace, and while Olivier Giroud didn’t get a goal, he was dangerous and was just unlucky.
Ahead of Wednesday’s clash against Barcelona, Conte has hinted that he’ll discuss with his players on the right tactics to use.
He said: “For Barcelona we have to prepare in the right way. This will be completely different to today (against Crystal Palace).”
Conte added: “It won’t be easy, we have to know this and we have to try to find the right solution to play this game.
“The best way is to speak to the players, together with the right plan to play this game.”
