We’re gradually nearing mid-season, and I don’t think it’s inappropriate or out of place to reflect on the journey so far for Chelsea.

It has no doubt, been a dream start for us – joint top after 8 games, and playing some wonderful football – probably the best in the league, or second best, at least, and only to Manchester City, who have had two seasons to prepare for their current system. So it’s been wonderful for us, and worthy of some appreciation.

Eden Hazard has been our standout player this season. He is undoubtedly the best in the league, and can go toe to toe with the other world greats, but I think that his brilliance has somewhat, taken away thought and attention from other of our boys who have impressed.

Mateo Kovacic is an outstanding player, who probably never thought he’d fit in so easily at Chelsea, but his transition has been commendable.

We also have Marcos Alonso doing well in the league too. He has given our attack some kind of deadliness, and the fans love it. He literally also links up well with the other players on the left flank and has been instrumental in our attacking plays from the left. Perhaps, not the outright best at defending, but his contributions to attack more than cover for that.

Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz are also doing a good job of marshalling our defence. We started out a bit shaky, but the duo seem more confident in recent games. Luiz’s case is even more inspiring, seeing he couldn’t even nail a starting position at some point last season.

Jorginho is the league’s best signing of the summer, if you asked me. He has thoroughly lifted our midfield to a different level, and is the perfect player for the position he plays in at Chelsea. So far, he’s made more passes than anyone else in the league, and it’s only two months in.

N’Golo Kante seems to have been less seen in games this season, but that’s mostly because he has been redeployed to a more attacking position, where he’s been efficient in creating chances and linking up play for Chelsea.

So these guys have also shone bright in our team this season, and I feel they deserve some love and appreciation. As much as Eden Hazard is miles ahead, he like it’s said, ‘Only a tree cannot make a forest’. He has probably also shined bright because of the calibre of players he has around him.

What makes him perfect for this blog? He lives for Chelsea FC, in fact, I heard he sat in the middle of a road, and refused to go home after that bitter loss to Barcelona in 2009. Haha.
