Chelsea have a Carabao Cup fourth round meeting with Derby County at Stamford Bridge slated for October 31.

Derby who are managed by Chelsea legend Frank Lampard defeated Manchester United in the third round to get to this stage of the competition.

Chelsea youngsters Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori have made a big impact since joining Derby on a season-long loan and helped defeat Manchester United in September.

Lampard had asked Chelsea’s permission to play Mount and Tomori ahead of a return to Stamford Bridge with Derby in the Carabao Cup at the end of the month.

According to the rules of the Carabao Cup, players on loan can’t play against their parent clubs unless an agreement is reached beforehand.

To which Lampard hoped Chelsea will agree to let the duo play. He said: “It is a conversation to be had and I think it is Chelsea-led because they are their players.

“I am pretty sure it will be Chelsea’s decision.

“I think everyone knows what my decision would be, so it will be up to them.”

However, The Telegraph report that Chelsea have blocked Lampard’s request to feature the duo against their parent club in the Carabao Cup third round clash.

Lampard had hoped his Chelsea connection would have helped him secure a positive response to his request, but the club aren’t willing to strengthen the Rams for this game.

Lampard will make a return to Stamford Bridge for the first time as a manager on October 31st and will receive a special reception from the club where he reached legendary status after 13 years.
