Real Madrid were in hot pursuit of Eden Hazard during the summer, but were unable to sign him as Chelsea refused to let go of their prized asset.
The Spanish giants have been interested in Hazard for many years now, but their interest in the Belgium captain during the summer transfer window was strong, however Chelsea were intent on keeping him.
Hazard’s future at Stamford Bridge remains uncertain as the 27-year-old will have a year left on his contract at the end of the season, and he has admitted that he is torn between staying at Chelsea and moving to Real Madrid.
Hazard is yet to sign a new contract with Chelsea, and speaking about his future, he recently said: “I don’t want to say, ‘yes, I am signing a new contract’ and then in the end I don’t end up signing.
“I want what’s good for me, but I want what’s good for the club because the club has given me everything.
“So I will see. Sometimes in my head, I wake up in the morning and think I want to go. Sometimes I think I want to stay.
“It is a hard decision. It is my future.
“Real Madrid are the best club in the world. I don’t want to lie today.
“It is my dream since I was a kid. I was dreaming about this club.
“We will see. I don’t want to talk about this every day, I don’t have time.
“But we will talk about my future soon.”
Hazard has spoken highly of Blues midfielder Ross Barkley, and Barkley is hoping Hazard will remain at the club.
Barkley said: “He’s a magnificent player. You can see how he started the season and the World Cup that he had, you don’t get many players like him.
“He’s capable of magic at any moment and to hear the things that he’s said, it’s great for me get to hear a player like that say so many great things about myself.
“It’s important [he stays] because he’s been at Chelsea for a long time. He’s achieved so much.
“But I can’t speak for Eden. He knows in his mind what he wants but I’d love to play with him for many more years.”
