Ross Barkley completed a £15m transfer from Everton in January, and it has taken him about ten months to score his first goal for the club.

After recovering from a long injury layoff last season, the former Evertonian struggled for form under Antonio Conte last season, but he’s looking a different player for Chelsea this campaign under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri.

Barkley was on the scoresheet after finding the net in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Southampton. The midfielder was at the right place and at the right time to tap the ball home from an Olivier Giroud scissors kick.

The goal was Barkley’s first for Chelsea, and he was really delighted.

“It was a fantastic result for us, and not only that, for me to get my first goal was fantastic,” Barkley said.

“I feel like I have been at a high level for a couple of years, but it’s just about producing performances on game day. Last season I had a difficult time with injuries, but on the training pitch I have felt strong and confident and I have built on that.

“As the season goes on I am sure I’ll continue to improve and show people what I am capable of.”

Barkley’s form this season has earned him a recall to the England national team after over a year of not representing his country.

Barkley, who will be involved with the Three Lions for the first time since March 2017 has admitted that he’s delighted to have been called up.

“It means the world to me,” he said. “There’s no better feeling than playing for your country. I am going to keep working hard and the rewards will come.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
