The players are in Greece ahead of Thursday’s Europa League opener against PAOK.
The Blues have enjoyed a blistering start to the season, winning all five Premier League games so far and Maurizio Sarri will be expecting to take that form into Europe by beating PAOK in Greece on Thursday.
Sarri has shown he wants to compete for the Europa League by taking a strong squad to Greece to play PAOK.
Cesc Fabregas, who is yet to play a Premier League game for Chelsea this season, traveled with the squad. The Spaniard picked up an injury in the Community Shield loss to Manchester City and only recently returned to training.
Eden Hazard and David Luiz didn’t make the trip to Greece as Sarri opted to rest the duo ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game at West Ham.
Willian, who scored a delightful goal in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday, also made the trip to Greece. The Brazilian could start against PAOK after starting from the bench on Saturday in the win over Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge.
Mateo Kovacic and Emerson Palmieri also didn’t travel with the squad. Kovacic picked a knock in the 4-1 win over Cardiff City on Saturday and was expected to miss the Europa League opener against PAOK but Emerson’s omission is obviously a surprise, given he’s yet to have game time this season.
Chelsea youngsters Ethan Ampadu and Callum Hudson-Odoi travelled with the team to Greece and we expect to see the duo feature against PAOK. Ampadu will be buzzing at the moment after extending his Chelsea contract until 2023 today.
“I’m really proud and happy,” Ampadu said after extending his Chelsea contract. “I’m looking forward to the next five years and all I have got to do now is continue to work hard, and hopefully good things will happen. I’d like to think my game has significantly improved since I have been here.
“I have learned a lot from the experiences I have gratefully had so far, and I have still got a lot to learn. Now I only want to keep working hard for more.”
The travelling team:
Kepa Arrizabalaga, Willy Caballero, Marcin Bulka, Toni Rudiger, Marcos Alonso, Cesc Fabregas, Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Ross Barkley, Pedro, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Victor Moses, Olivier Giroud, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Davide Zappacosta, Willian, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, Alvaro Morata, Ethan Ampadu.
Chelsea are in Group L in the Europa League with BATE Borisov and Videoton. The Blues will play West Ham on Sunday.
