Chelsea’s signing of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic this summer as well as the return of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from loan has seen the Blues become choked in midfield, with many players vying for limited positions.
Maurizio Sarri has let last summer signing Tiemoue Bakayoko join AC Milan on loan with an option to buy.
And now, reports claim the new Blues boss is also ready to let another last summer’s acquisition Danny Drinkwater, leave the club before the close of the transfer window among many leagues in Europe.
Chelsea spent £35million to sign Drinkwater from Leicester City last summer but he only managed 12 Premier League games during the 2017-18 campaign, and the 28-year-old doesn’t seem to be a part of Sarri’s plans for the new season.
Sarri’s rich midfield option includes summer signing Jorginho, loan arrival Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Due to the competition at Stamford Bridge, Drinkwater was left out of Chelsea’s match-day squad for our opening game of the new season against Huddersfield Town.
Bundesliga outfit Schalke are believed to have expressed interest in signing Drinkwater, who won the Premier League with Leicester before joining Chelsea.
