Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi will spend the 2018/19 season on loan at La Liga side Valencia.
The 24-year-old, who almost joined Sevilla on loan in January, was thought to be close to joining Sevilla on loan this summer before he opted to join Valencia instead.
His decision to join Valencia irked Sevilla’s president Castro, who was recorded by Deportes Cuatro lamenting Batshuayi’s decision to opt for “four Champions League matches” over many more opportunities in the Europa League.
Batshuayi has now hit back at Sevilla president by insisting he joined Valencia over Sevilla because Valencia play in the Champions League and fight against the best teams.
“There were plenty of clubs who wanted to sign me but after talking to Marcelino, a bond was generated and he convinced me to sign,” Batshuayi said.
“This is a strong team who play in the Champions League and fight against the best, but what convinced me most was my conversation with the coach.
“I’ve come here to play for a Valencia side who want to play more than four games in the Champions League. My wish is to win a title with Valencia this season.”
