Maurizio Sarri recorded his first win as Chelsea Coach with a 3-0 triumph over David Wagner’s Huddersfield team. But in reality, the scoreline looks flattering for Chelsea and Sarri. While victory in this game is positive, there were also moments in the game the team lost control and looked in danger.

However, it was a sweet win to savor, but improvements need to be made.

Here are 2 areas Chelsea needs to improve:

SLOPPY FIRST HALF START NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WITH FAST AND QUICK PLAY:

One of the ideals of Sarri’s style of play is quick transitional play and movement of the ball at great speed to leaving the opposition players jaded, out of sorts and disorganized in play. But David Wagner’s team played with force and physicality to unsettle the Chelsea players and disrupt our rhythm. We lacked cohesion in our play and we were pressed deep into our half for the first 15-20 minutes of the game. At some stage it was rightly accurate that Huddersfield had more possession than we did.  So, we must avoid such moments to avoid early setbacks in games.

DEFENSIVE PRESSURE MUST BE CONTROLLED TO AVOID DEFENSIVE ERRORS:

Chelsea transformation from a back three to back four was evident as the players took time to gel albeit not much worries. Still on our first half display, there were moments when Wagner’s team pressed the Blues in wide areas and used both their physicality and height to beat Chelsea’s defence in aerial duels, even with Mounier crashing a corner against the bar. They swung crosses into Chelsea’s middle time and again, but we dealt with them quite fairly, but we need to do better with teams that come with such game plan.

Aside these issues, it was a good game  and vital win for Chelsea. Cheers!
