Ruben Loftus-Cheek has only played 22 games in three years at Chelsea, but the 22-year-old has been tipped to be a more important player for the Blues next season after a wonderful season that has seen him mature on loan at Crystal Palace.

Dominic Fifield, a football writer at the Guardian believes Loftus-Cheek will do better than last summer signing Tiemoue bakayoko who has so far struggled in England.

“Ruben Loftus-Cheek should be playing 30 or 35 games next season, wherever he is,” Fifield told ITV Sport’s World Cup Podcast.

“I have no doubts he will have no problems with starting games [for England].

“Surprisingly, he’s got a lot of self-confidence for someone that was on the fringes at Chelsea, kicking his heels really, hardy getting a look in.

“I think anyone who’s seen what he did at Palace last season, it’s very clear he’s got the pedigree.

“Certainly he would have done well in that Chelsea team last year. He wouldn’t have had the adaptation time to the Premier League that was required by Bakayoko.

“Chelsea have invested a lot of money in Bakayoko and he is one for the future for them, but he’s the same age as Ruben Loftus-Cheek who was already on the books, already Premier League ready as he proved at Palace last season.

“There’s a big decision to be made at Chelsea next year and with Ruben Loftus-Cheek as to whether he sticks around there and plays more regularly then Europa League football.”
